Monhegan Island heading out

Back in September Natasha and I took a day trip to Monhegan Island off the Maine coast. The boat ride on the Balmy Days took about and hour and a half to get there. We boarded at 9 in the morning in Boothbay Harbor and departed about 9:30. The weather was cloudy but no rain was forgets for the day.

Getting ready to board the Balmy Days in Boothbay Harbor Maine

We seated ourselves on the open air upper deck as we prepared to cruise to the island.

Leaving Boothbay Harbor Maine

The ocean waters were relatively calm for the first half hour as we sailed through the harbor past many small islands and lighthouses.

As we left the protection of the harbor and the islands the ocean swells became bigger. We went downstairs to the enclosed area on the boat away from the cold wind, and rocked and rolled to Monhegan Island for the next hour.

Sailing the open seas

After bouncing through the swells for almost an hour Mañana Island and Monhegan Island came into view through the fog. The Balmy Days soon would dock and we would go ashore for over 3 hours and walk around and explore the island.
